Perry says, “Every time I taste God’s love I realize that all those other places I look to for real life are cheap substitutes.” People the world over are experiencing at Asbury what we were created for: To be filled with the love of God. Nothing else satisfies. Then, Shawna admits: “I have a hard time believing what God has promised me.”
Next, Shawna’s daughter Haven shares her song “His Story,” honoring her grandpa. Then, it was spring break in high school for Perry in St. Paul, MN. The last place on earth he wanted to be. Turns out, it was the best place on earth to be. Last, you don’t have to go to Asbury to be filled up with God’s love!
This was Perry’s everyday reality as a teenager, and it still is today. But Perry knows so much more now than he did then, and it gives him and us great hope in our struggle with sin. Then, though God knows the good, bad, and ugly about you, you are still his favorite child. Next, the blood of murdered Abel cried out for justice. But Jesus’ blood speaks a better word. Then, Shawna admits, “God can speak life to me in my time with him, then 2 hours later, I forget what he said and that he’s even in my life!” Then Ben Connelly author of Reading the Bible, Missing the Gospel, says: “Jesus is the only hero is the bible. Since I started reading it that way, my life is changing!”
Last Wednesday, Asbury University students made their way to chapel. When the last worship song was played, students didn’t want to leave because of the thickness of God’s presence. And they still haven’t left! Author, communicator, podcaster, Steve Norman of Winning At Home teams up with us to talk about what’s going on!
First, history tells us the prayer always comes before revival and right on the heels of prayer is repentance, turning from our sin to the mercy of God. Then, Steve admits, “I don’t want to open up about my sin, I want to armor up and come off all put together!” And Perry has a confession to make. Next, just recently Perry realized that he initiated bullying against one of his best friends in high school. And so just this last Friday, he sent a letter asking for forgiveness.
Then, when we crash into grace, it moves us to repent. Last, Steve went through Celebrate Recovery and was moved by the Spirit to write letters to those he’d offended. And some he’d offended rejected him. About that Steve says, “It’s not about the person I’ve wronged accepting my amends, it’s about doing anything I can to build a bridge to someone I’ve wronged.” Please share this show!
At 16 Claire would have said, “I’m a Christian”, but she was into everything all her non-believing friends were into. Until one evening, as a sophomore in high school she was riveted by a YouTube video that Jesus used to show her she was lost. That’s the night Jesus found Claire. Now Claire’s 19 and is moving to the Middle East to share Jesus’ love with Muslims! Claire also shares how Jesus broke her heart for those who haven’t heard the gospel, how the Lord used her to lead a Muslim to Jesus, and how God showed her nothing is impossible through one thousand twenty seven dollars. Last Shawna admits, “I thought Lent was just for Catholics!”
It was at his son’s funeral that TobyMac shared some unexpected words that became his family’s “Cornerstone.” Then, life-giving words the Lord spoke to Shawna, “You’re not a problem to fix, you’re my daughter!” Next, when Shawna’s daughter Eden was 12, she said to her mom, “You’re not the bad guy mom, you’re just doing what’s best for us because you love us!”
Then, “A saint is not always someone who is good, but someone who has experienced the goodness of God.” The story behind TobyMac’s “The Goodness.” Then, how the death of Jesus turns every tragedy into beauty. Last, TobyMac never thought he’d write another victory song after the death of his son. That’s when God gave him, “Help Is On The Way.”
And she’s lived to tell the tale! And she’s single and LOVES Valentine’s Day. It’s none other than our good friend Lisa Anderson of the Boundless Show and Podcast. Boundless is an international community of singles who’re doing life together and growing a faith that goes the distance.
First, Lisa shares why she loves Valentine’s Day. (Because it’s about way more than romantic love)! Then, if you’re single, you don’t have to live as if you’re in waiting. You can go for it, living life to the full! Next, Jesus is freeing Lisa more and more to let God love her apart from her performance. Next, if you’re single and you feel alone and sad, Lisa’s got some gold for you.
Then, if you’re single and getting older, should you freeze your eggs? (Sorry that we’ll only talk about lighter subjects). Last, the key to living life to the full is realizing we’re not in control; that even if our best laid plans have failed, God’s got us!
